Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein. (King James Version)

History of "Ang Dating Daan"

ng Dating Daan is the only program which boldly and frankly exposes religious corruptions and deceptions. And this is the only existing program which fearlessly opens its communication lines to anyone who seeks answers based in the Bible. A unique program that touched, changed and influenced the lives of many individual, particularly Filipinos, it is ironically patronized and despised. Nevertheless, ADD has come a long way. This is once a dream but is now a reality.

On April 20, 1980, Brother Eli Soriano, the presiding minister of the Church of God International and the main host of ADD, registered the organization “Mga Kaanib sa Iglesia ng Dios kay Kristo Hesus Haligi at Saligan ng Katotohanan” with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). It was also this year when Brother Eli conceptualized ADD, which debuted at DWWA 1260 KHz as a 30-minute program.

Listeners requested a longer program time soon after it hit the airwaves. People were amazed with the bold religious preaching showcased by Brother Eli and wanted to hear him more often. This is the first time listeners heard of forthright exposes on unbiblical religious practices.

The popularity of Brother Eli reached the ears of Don Manolo Favis, host of the program “Ang Genius Family ni Ginoong Manalo.” And after a month of airing at DWWA, Brother Eli became part of Don Manalo’s resource guests. His mastery of the Scriptures, cleverness, wit and knowledge not only of the Bible but other fields as well, like science, politics, and other studies quickly caught the attention of Don Manolo’s listeners. Until the program, which originally consists of 30 members, is left with only one resource person: Bro. Eli.

Soon, ADD was also heard at DZME, DWAD, DZRD, DWAN, and DZXQ aside from other provincial radio stations in the Philippines.

The program officially hit national television via Channel 13 in 1983. The following year (1984), Brother Eli launched “SRO on Target.” At the two programs’ earlier years, they earned the ire of preachers from different religious organizations who were hurt by Bro. Eli’s sharp exposes against these group’s religious businesses; until it came that they coerced the management of the station to ban the program. For two years (1987-1989), ADD was stopped on television.

As the Church reach out to more people, Bro. Daniel suggested that the organization hold Bible Exposition. Since then, Bible Expositions became one of the most effective means for listener’s all over the country to personally ask questions according to the Bible. This kind of public symposium is held not only in Metro Manila but in the different provinces as well.

It is not always swift sailing for ADD because it has suffered a lot of religious persecutions as well. It was already hindered from airing on radio and television for several times that is why it jumped from one station to another, like RJTV-29, PTV-4, SBN-21 and presently at UNTV-37.

When the Movie Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) slapped indefinite suspension against Brother Eli and his co-panelists together with the other ADD programs (“D’ X’MAN,” “Ayon sa Biblia,” and “Itanong Mo kay Soriano”) on May 12, 2005, the move sparked clamor both from supporters of ADD in media and the public. This move prompted Brother Eli to file complaint with the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) against the MTRCB.

The indefinite suspension issued to ADD was seen as a direct violation to the constitution of the Philippines. It is a violation to the separation of state and religion. A religious program has never been stopped from airing before even during Martial Law Years. A religious program has never been issued an indefinite suspension.

Now back on air, ANG DATING DAAN continues to touch the hearts of many, opens the eyes and changes the lives of humanity.
