Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein. (King James Version)

Vice Presiding Minister
f he would write a book, it would be about the greatest leader who ever lived on earth—our Lord Jesus Christ. Daniel Razon finds the hardships, struggles and sacrifices experienced by Christ quite remarkable that he wanted to publish a book about Him to show how any person can attain perfection through being selfless—by giving up material possessions, resources and personal happiness in view of an unseen promise of eternal bliss.

Daniel is the second-in-command in the hierarchy of the Church’s officials and has already served for more than five years as the Vice-Presiding Minister of the Congregation. In spite of the rank, he is very humble.

Daniel was born on October 11, 1967. He grew up in an era of the Church of God’s history when the Congregation was left unprepared and confused by the untimely demise of its leader, Brother Nicolas Perez, as no one was appointed to replace him. Daniel also witnessed how the Church was divided into three groups and Brother Eli stood pat and abided by the Bible’s teachings to lead the Congregation with sincerity, dedication and love.

Growing up from a family who are already members of the Church of God, Daniel was taught about Christian living such as praying to God even about his simplest wishes, being obedient and respectful to his parents and showing concern and goodwill to people.

In 1970, when Daniel was only three years old, Brother Eli, his uncle, would ask him to memorize five to ten stanzas of poems which he would recite before the Congregation at the former Central of the Church of God in Pasay City, Metro Manila.

It was no wonder then that when he entered school, public speaking became his cup of tea. He was a regular contestant to various oratorical competitions and would sweep major awards at the whole province of Bulacan. Brother Eli composed almost all his award-winning contest pieces. Aside from poetry, he also enjoyed dissecting and experimenting with frogs because he also dreamt of becoming a doctor one day.

By the age of nine, Brother Eli already trained Daniel to memorize biblical passages and to deliver a biblical discourse before the Congregation during Thanksgiving. His uncle would also let him discuss the first part of a religious lesson with the public when Bro. Eli was holding missionary works at the province of Pampanga.

When he was about to enter college, Brother Eli asked Daniel to take up mass communications because the former would be pursuing television broadcast. This prompted Daniel to drop his plan of taking up Medicine. Instead, he enrolled in the Mass Communication degree program of the Centro Escolar University’s (CEU).

In order to sustain the high cost of education and to be able to finish his course, Daniel sold banana cues (fried bananas on stick) to his classmates and accepted menial jobs such as driving taxi after classes.

And while most of his classmates in college were very busy doing assignments, Daniel was busy directing a television program, “Ang Dating Daan” (The Old Path). During the early 1980s, he, together with Brother Eli and Sister Luz were just starting broadcast in television. Daniel would direct the program and Brother Eli would tackle a biblical discourse and Sister Luz would conduct research. It became a routine for several years for him and Brother Eli.

Daniel became a Brother-in-Christ on November 28, 1983 and in his capacity as a student of broadcast communication, he joined the Workers’ Ministry and attended ministerial classes of the Church of God.

His dedication, perseverance and fear of God paid off when he became an Officer-in-Charge of the Metro-Manila Division, one of the largest divisions of the Church of God. His election to the rank of a Vice-Presiding Minister came when Brother Eli announced before the Congregation the need to elect a likely successor, someone who will take his place when an unexpected or untimely event happened to him such as death. Brother Eli would like to prevent a repeat of what happened to the group led by Brother Nicolas Perez when the latter died and no one was publicly announced to become his successor (Brother Eli then was given by Brother Perez an identification card showing Brother Eli’s appointment as the Church’s first minister. He would have been the likely successor if not because of politicking and bad mouthing waged against him by some insecure members).

An accomplished radio and television broadcast journalist, Brother Daniel has worked with some of the country’s largest radio stations such as DZBB and DZMM; and with several television networks such as ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation, GMA Channel 7 and PTV Channel 4.

In the Church of God, he directly oversees the Broadcast Media, Information Technology and Publication Ministries. He is also back on air as co-host of Brother Eli on the Church’s programs in radio and television.

Brother Daniel co-founded and chairs, together with Brother Eli, a social and charity foundation which help feed, clothe and provide medical assistance to poor and financially-challenged people.

Indeed, Daniel has experienced a lot, and sacrificed much to be able to give not only for his family and the Church but for many people who call and approach him for help. He could not refuse as his heart melts easily at the sight of some helpless and hopeless souls. Much of what he had read and had understood from the Bible, and learned from his uncle, Brother Eli, he preaches and practices.
