Question:
The question concerns I John 2:19. Is there a possibility that the true church be split into two true churches? Answer: If it was split into two, then, one of them is no longer true. Question: What if the fold which had been divided into two will be given a shepherd each? Answer: That is not possible. Zechariah 13:8-9 says: “And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the Lord, two parts therein shall be cut off and die, but the third shall be left therein. And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them; I will say, it is my people, and they shall say, The Lord is my God.” Of the group, which was divided into three groups, the two died, and only one remained with God. Granting that the group was divided into two, one of them might remain of God but the other one will no longer be of God. We better read I John 2:19: “They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.” Therefore, those who get out of the organization of the apostles are no longer one of them. Question: In that particular verse, which can be considered as the true church, the ones who went out, or the ones who stayed behind? Answer: The true church was the one that stayed. You know why? Because the others went out. The one speaking there was John, and John remained true until he was 98 years old and that was until his death. He was speaking in behalf of his comrades in the church. “They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.” |
