he books JUDGES, RUTH, and I and II SAMUEL were the
books that discuss Israel’s faith and reverence to
God under the leadership of Joshua and the prophets.
The Book of JUDGES, which is said to have been
written by the prophet SAMUEL in 1100 BC, narrates
how Israel was ruled by Judges while they did not
have a king, yet, to rule them.
It is in this book where we could read how Israel
turned its back against God, and worshipped false
gods instead. Aside from that, they also committed a
lot of transgressions. That was why, God punished
them.
The Book of RUTH, which is believed to have been
written by Samuel in Israel in 1090 BC, depicts the
traits of Ruth as an upright servant of God.
The First Book of SAMUEL is believed to have been
written by Samuel, Gad, and Nathan in Israel in 1077
BC. From chapters 1 to 7, we could read the events
that happened during Samuel’s reign.
On the other hand, the story about King Saul could
be read, starting from the 8th chapter of I SAMUEL
up to the 1st chapter of II SAMUEL. The second Book
of SAMUEL was also said to have been written in
Israel in 1040 BC by Gad and Nathan, because during
this period, Samuel had passed away. From the
succeeding chapters of this book, we could read the
historic governance of King David.
