anguage serves as a bridge that links the past to the present and to the future. Language is something that can be transmitted from one generation to another. Meaning, the language that we used today is, most likely, the very same language that our parents and grandparents used. We may find difficulty in communicating with people of different nationalities because of language diversity. But there was a particular period in the history of mankind when the whole of the earth spoke only in one language. Genesis 11:1 tells us that in the beginning there was no language barrier among men then because there was only one language being spoken.
From the time of Adam and Eve up to the time of Noah, people used only one language. It was explained that Adam and Eve learned the language they used from the Being that created them. And that was God. God spoke to Adam. In fact, God even warned Adam about the tree of knowledge of good and evil. In other words, the first mouth that spoke, which was heard by man, was God’s. The main point here is the fact that God speaks even to mortals like us. Our God had spoken of many things that are coming to pass now. And since we believe that the Words of God is the best evidence of His existence, this is the topic that we will try to expound on, thru the help of God, of course.
The word of God is potent, and it is a very important proof of God’s existence. Why? It is because His spoken words can never be refuted even if you speak a different language or dialect. If you grew up in an environment wherein English is the language that your parents, or guardians, speak, even if you are a full-blooded Spanish, chances are, you are going to learn the English language. A child of Spanish parentage, who grew up in the US and got exposed with the English-speaking people, is bound to learn the English language. If Adam learned a particular language, it must be the language that he had heard from God. The Bible said that God spoke to our parents, to our forefathers, to the first man and woman. And until the time of Noah, the earth spoke only in one language. That was written in
Genesis 11:11—
“And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.”
According to the Bible, “the whole earth,” and that was until the time when Noah and his whole family had experienced the flood, until after settling to a plain which the Bible called as the Plain of Shinar. The whole of earth then was of one language and of one speech. And we can be very sure that such language was the language used by Noah, which he learned from his parents and grandparents, who, in turn, learned it from Adam. And certainly, that was the language, which was introduced to Adam by the Creator, because there could be no other being who could have taught them that language.
Remember that the only companions of Adam in the Garden of Eden were the animals and the birds that were brought to him by God for him to name. It is recorded in
Genesis 2:19-20—
“And out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field, every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof. And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.”
Therefore, there was nobody else fitting to help Adam because he was the only human being who existed that time. The only creatures surrounding him then were the cattle, the fowl of the air, and the beast of the field – all of them do not have the ability to speak. It was impossible that he could have learned his language from those creatures. For sure, Adam learned his language from his Creator who spoke to him in the Garden of Eden. In fact, He even instructed him what to do in the Garden; He also warned him what to eat and what not to eat. So, the possibility is, God taught Adam to speak. He must have heard God calling him Adam. Adam, or Adama, is one of the most ancient names spoke by man and by God, which had been recorded in the Bible.
During the time of our Lord Jesus and during the time of the Apostles, thousands of years after Adam, the word “Adam” was again mentioned by the Apostle Paul, and even by our Lord Jesus Christ.
Let us make the name that was given to you as an example. You did not choose your name; somebody just gave it to you. In the same manner that Adam did not choose his name and neither did he name himself. It was the Creator who named him Adam. Now, we are sure that the Creator speaks, and His words are clearly recorded in the Scriptures. But why are we saying that the words of God prove His existence? There is something that we need to clarify regarding the word of God. The Bible said, God cannot tell a lie. He does not lie and He would never lie.
Titus 1:2 says—
“In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began.”
In that particular verse, the Apostle Paul is introducing to us the character of the God that he was serving. He is a God that cannot lie. Meaning, He will never tell a lie. And this pronouncement was given reiteration in
Hebrews 6:18—
“That by two immutable things in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us.”
St. Paul said that it was impossible for God to lie. Therefore, we are given an assurance that whenever and wherever God speaks, He is telling the truth. The Bible introduces Him as the God of truth. He never lies. What now is the kind of speech, or language, that God utters? Psalms 12:5 says—
“The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.”
Therefore, whenever the Lord speaks, He utters nothing but pure words – words as pure as silver that had been tried seven times. Our Church once had a discussion with a Born Again preacher who cited this verse. He said that the words of God are tried like silver. That is a wrong interpretation of the verse. We do not try God’s words! What is being tried is silver. And silver is tried seven times for it to be pure, in like manner that the word of God is pure. The words of God are pure; they are without blemish; they are without lies. That is how the Bible introduces the word of God.
Now, why is it right to believe that the words of God are concrete evidences of His existence? There are people who do not believe in the existence of God because they are ignorant of His words. But if you are going to examine His pronouncements of long ago, you will realize that most of His pronouncements are now coming to reality. They are now being fulfilled. His words are words of wisdom. His prophecies are being realized in detail right in our time. And that only proves that those words were spoken by an Authority – an Authority who never lies. And He is the God in the Bible.
And to prove that the word of God is pure and true, the angel sent by God have this to say in
Luke 1:37—
“For God, nothing shall be impossible …”
The angel here was speaking to Mary, and Mary was asking the angel how she shall conceive when she had not known any man.
And the angel answered her and said, “For God nothing shall be impossible, whatever He speaks, whatever He say, it will surely come to pass.”
And it, indeed, came to pass. Mary, the mother of our Lord Jesus, conceived without being touched by a man, not even by Joseph, her husband.
Now, if God’s words are true, and if we believe that in His magnificence, He has the capability to execute His words, then, whatever He says will surely come to pass. We have, now, a very important proof that God really exists – His prophecies and His pronouncements.
For example, long before man discovered that the earth is round, it was already pronounced in the Bible.
Isaiah 40:22 says—
“It is He that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretched out the heaven as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in.”
According to the Bible,
“It is He that sitteth upon the circle of the earth.”
