t is said that television is the most effective medium in spreading information and in influencing people. In fact, pastors of different religious denominations also use this medium to preach their doctrines.
The religious group “The Kingdom of Jesus Christ, the Name above Every Name,” ministered by Mr. Apollo Quiboloy, started its TV programs “Powerline” and “Hour of Truth” a few years ago. These programs were used to spread the organization’s doctrines.
Surprising enough, members are prohibited to have television sets in their homes. This is written in their by-laws attached to their Securities and Exchange Commission Registration on November 8, 1985. Article 2 section 1 states that--
“We wholeheartedly disapprove of our people indulging in any activity which are not conducive to good Christianity and Godly living, such as theaters, dancers, make-up and any apparel that immediately expose the body, all worldly sports and amusements and unwholesome programs and music. Furthermore, tobacco in any form, intoxicating drinks, and vulgar languages are prohibited. We admonish all our people to refrain from those practices for the interest of spiritual progress in the soon coming of the Lord for His Church. We disapprove our members having television in their homes.”
It appears that having a television set in the house does not help in becoming a good Christian and in living a Godly life.
So, why have a TV program anyway if having a TV set in the house does not help cultivate Christian values? Why air a program via the said media if this was in fact prohibited? Isn’t that ridiculous? Does this have basis in the bible or was this weird teaching?
